The college years

Enter the pretty young things

With fresh faced blue jeaned legs

Their hair long and blond

Flowing free

Not yet tied back

Tied up

Not yet constrained

By babies, lovers, soft furnishings

Hard decisions and crushed dreams

Their conversation glittering awash

With all there is to do

Bags and coats

Eyes ablaze

With questions, thoughts and ideas

Not for them bright coloured packages tied up with string

Nor spotty faced Herbert’s

Too shy to offer suit, wary of words that sting

For them it is the real thing

For them it is sparkling eyes

 And nervous flashing smiles

For them bright carefully sprinkled, spoken words

For them at sixteen a brave new world

All too soon chased away

The college years

This is really good, Martin. IMO, many lines are outstanding; 'BRIGHT CAREFULLY SPRINKLED SPOKEN WORDS' is superb.

'hair long and blonde'? Was there a 'blond-dye thing' in those years? Or were those the only girls you/boys actually noticed? I like the honesty and hate the implication - my problem, not yours.

to be honest and respectful Martin,I could as we all could if need be,
do some nit picking on certain poems-

but I prefer not to,and simply use my own way of approaching and mentally repairing any faults as long as I can get the main gist

a kind of 'reading over.
So having mentioned that, you won't know if I have or haven't found anything in this poem to actually fault.

Keep guessing haha!,while I say,I have enjoyed reading this poem very much.Thank you!x
