Quiet, please, for Sarah L Dixon, in the spotlight at Sowerby Bridge on Monday

Sarah L Dixon, whose Quiet Compere tour, backed by the Arts Council, has been touring the north and venturing as far south as Birmingham, will be performing on her own on Monday 6 October, as guest poet at Puzzle Poets LIve at the Puzzle Hall Inn, Sowerby Bridge.

She recently had word that the tour – a different city each month, with 10 different poets at each venue - will be back with more funding in 2015. Highlights of the tour so far? “The poetry buzz that is Birmingham – I was delighted it slipped into the tour of the north. I hadn’t met any of the line-up in advance, but had balanced the poets in the running order so well I shocked myself - and the audience couldn't believe I'd not met any of them before. This gig was blogged about three times within 12 hours, complete with photos.”

Another gig she has particularly fond memories of is Blackpool. “Having sold only four advance tickets the nerves were singing.  But it was a sellout triumph at the Imperial.  The audience was well up for it when called upon, and respectfully silent when needed. It was a bank holiday - I should have expected nothing less.”

In an interview with Steve Nash for the soundsphere website, she said of her style as compere: “I call it quiet because I am not funny on demand or ‘perfomancey’. I like to introduce poets only by name rather than huge bibliography. Let the poems do the talking.”

Sarah will be doing more of the talking herself at her own performance at Sowerby Bridge on Monday night at 7.30pm. More details and Map
