The Sirens

The Sirens

There’s trouble somewhere

Someone needs help

The sirens are out there

Screaming to help

I’m lost again

But I feel okay

Lost in my music

Looking for the way

Maybe they’re hurt

Or dying in bed

Smoke from a fire

Faster blue and red

I’ve always moved to the side

I’ve always let them fly by

I’ve never kept them from moving

I halted the sirens last night

Rushing through the parted river

Someone’s crying for their help

So afraid they start to shiver

I was there, and couldn’t help

Stopped for red, there’s something wrong

Outside the world of my loud song

Behind me lights of red and blue

Now it’s green, I must quickly move

Sure they’re moving now

As other cars pull over

But I’ll never forget how

One moment can’t be recovered

In this moment, what if?

The last drop of life

Falls from silence and loss

As the sirens arrive

One moment late, one life lost

I could be a killer

I could have caused a death

I’ll never know the better

Until the moment of my last breath

Back at home

The night expires

It’s the unknown

That light our fires
