Time To Be Incubated?

entry picture

Incubate is a pioneering 2 year artist development scheme for UK spoken word artists. It is a collaboration between Apples & Snakes, BAC, Birmingham REP and Contact. Incubate aims to provide time, space and provocation for spoken word artists to experiment with the ways they create.

The project is a great opportunity to work with artists from all kinds of different artforms- from music to live art to film and beyond. It is for any spoken word artist- at any stage of their career- who feels that they are itching to experiment with their process, collaborate in a team and challenge themselves.

How does it work?

Between December 2007 and October 2008, six spoken word artists will spend 2 weeks at each of BAC, Birmingham REP and Manchester's Contact Theatre. These weeks are creative development periods - you'll work with artists from a huge range of artforms to play with what you make and how you make it. You will receive a weekly fee and your accommodation and travel will be paid for.

At the end October 2008, the artists will make proposals for ideas they'd like to take forward to a second stage. A number of these will continue to the next year for more creative development time, ending with work-in-progress showings.

Send some examples of your work - on the page, plus audio/video if appropriate - it can be in any form that you feel best shows the work you make. Also tell me why you would like to be part of Incubate - what you think you would bring to it, what you would gain from it, where you are now in your work and where you dream you'd like to go. We'll get back to you - if you are shortlisted you'll be invited to a workshop/audition day, and from there we'll chose the final 6.
