 Amnesiacs

Blue moods can lie

Or amplify truth

Colloid in regions of a soul

Blues gives reflections

Like broken mirrors

We live under the gaze of poets

Calling us to task

Whispering in our ear

To be unafraid

To subdue cheerful robots

To deliberate with happy slaves

To refuse to wear yokes of shame

A blue deep as purple leaves

Stains

What we suffer because of love

Thickens blood

Makes us richer

Or so we’re told

One love

One divinity

Back to A

Like a tuning fork

Distance between noise

And music is deceiving

Our ears are not trained

To recognize music as the same

To hear distortion in white noise

To dance to it like stolen syncopation

Every time the sky falls the ground softens

Every time a heart breaks a soul deepens

So where does that leave us

Bridges grow between cracks in a heart

While maintaining integrity

But cracks in a mirror leave gaps

Of vulnerability and distortions

Resembling funhouse reflections

Wavy and ephemeral like incense smoke

Essence lingers then disappears

The cost of bad reflections

Is immeasurable

But bridges built to heal

Remember journeys to

Lost treasures of amnesia

We have forgotten to remember

So long we can’t fathom

Why we should

We see ourselves through shattered

Insinuations

Echoed from a brokered past

How many times have we run from reflection

How many times did they catch us

We can’t imagine our opposite as ourselves

We are imprisoned in who we think they are

Ancestors wait for us to bridge

Schisms between memory and propaganda

Between imagination and rote

Awareness and paranoia

No matter what mirrors say

We navigate images avoiding catastrophe

Wanting love in a world sordid with obstructions

Littered with obstacles

Burdened with regrets

We live in fear of change

Though we have no choice

Afraid we’ll lose ourselves

Afraid not to try
