World Poetry Day Manchester : Brian Turner & Thingumajig Theatre

US soldier-poet Brian Turner and Thingumajig Theatre will be special guests for Poets and Players' in Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester at 2.30pm on Saturday, March 21 - World Poetry Day and the sixth anniversary of the US-led invasion of Iraq.

 

   Turner spent seven years in the US Army. He served a year as an infantry team leader in Iraq with the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. 

 

   Brian will read from his award-winning book Here, Bullet which is full of haunting poems written during his time in Iraq.

 

   Using evocative puppets and live music, Thingumajig Theatre will perform scenes from A November Day, the story of a First World War survivor’s unexpected encounter with a stray dog who knew no boundaries. Developed in association with the Imperial War Museum North and performed by Kathy Bradley and Andrew Kim.
