COMMON OR WHAT?

POSH? Bish bosh!! We're all the same .....

COMMON OR WHAT?

Where you from?
You think I’m common?
Come on
Just because you pronounce your aitches
Try it walking down past Strangeways
You’d find it a strange place
Full of strange ways alright
At night
With that voice
Your choices compromised
By the plum in your mouth?
Does the silver spoon not get in the way?
Seems funny now you've nowt to say
In that strange way of yours.
I’m sure your accent opens doors
Behind which reside the bores
Who laugh at the dialects
Of the people who re-elect
Them into positions of superiority
Then suck back into inferiority.
Where you from? Talking posh.
Seems to me if you've got the dosh
You can suddenly become someone else
Who can’t possibly remain true to themselves
Blue blooded, suddenly
History’s muddied, stubbornly
By the way you speak
You have to keep up the pretence
Can’t let it drop
Once you've started
You can’t stop
Otherwise we’ll know where you’re from
A voice like breaking glass
Don’t give you class
Respect? You have to earn it
Your tone doesn't mean you’re better than me
This is something you will learn
As we talk, tell a tale
Argue, balk and rail
About the world we live in
Class or classless we can never give in
Like it or not, it’s all we've got
Your space is my space
Irrespective of race
Colour or creed
We all have similar needs
The need to feed
The need to seed
The fields of our existence
It won’t be our accents
But our persistence
Which will take us forward
Without feeling awkward about
Where we’re from or how we talk
So come on let’s walk together
Common man with a common cause
Working hand in hand because
This is our earth.
