Azrael

entry picture

Azrael

In hushed and reverent tones

we watched the daylight fade

until it winked out

in a final spark of twilight.

Heads bowed

we felt them slip away

all their bright energy

dissipating in the growing gloom.

Tears then

corroding and eating

at our souls

until there were

no more

saline teeth

chewing at

our memories.

A calm settled

as we felt grey wings unfurl

enclosing all

within their feathered arc

sweeping them up

to where there is no pain

to where archangels

dance with the innocent.

Really good Ian..and as Harry says (and he knows yer know!) the twinning of the picture and poem make a powerful impression..

enjoyed the view you painted here :)

Ian,
The picture and the poem together powerful.

The poem would also stand on its own with a suitable sub-title.

(Often I feel that a picture `overpowers` the poem
but this would `work` with any apt picture)
