♪ An arrangement of notes about three lighthouses ♪

I sang my teenage son to sleep last night
for my benefit,
bathing in his confidence

he enjoyed my song
I love his music
but cannot play it

I remembered when we used to talk about 'Next Baby'
and then didn't
seems half my stupid life ago

we used to toss whole crusts
to the geese at the water park,
to watch them play 'geese rugby'
under softly singing power lines

after it happened
in the flooded woods near home
I built a shrine
hidden in the deepest secret thicket

a small pink stone
wrapped up safe inside
and a solar-cell garden light
it glows every night
unseen by anything human

Hi Roger. I enjoyed this poem. The second line struck a chord with me as a parent.
