The Mouth of the Cave celebrates the ancient Irish Goddesses and their modern day counterparts.

Irish Poet Siobhán Mac Mahon, funded by Arts Council England and e Irish Arts Foundation, creates a passionate and provocative piece of Performance Poetry, interweaving word, sound, music and drumming. Invoking the magic, myths and mayhem of the ancient Irish goddesses, she explores their archetypal relevance to modern women’s sexuality and spirituality and looks at the place/displacement of women within existing religious and cultural frameworks.

With musician Sabrina Piggott, Siobhán takes you on a journey, with warmth and humour, deep into the mystical Celtic twilight world, where trees whisper, the sea calls you home and Goddesses roam the land….

· Hear how Rita is teaching the Pope ecstatic Tantra…

· Meet the Biddies who are inventing a new religion…

· Tremble before the fierce truth of the Goddess Morrigan…

· Listen to the lovely Goddess Danu inviting you deep into the Holy Woods…

This project brings together three other artists to create a multi layered experience of the Spoken Word;

· Sabrina Piggott – Living in Leeds, but hailing from Cork, Sabrina is a well respected musician on the traditional Irish music scene in Leeds and beyond, and is a musician and tutor with the Irish Arts Foundation.

· Sarah Hope – artistic and creative development director of The Mouth of the Cave. Sarah is an actor and director who has worked extensively in theatre and television.

· Jonuz Bryanmusician and Sound Artist, recorded the sound tracks and the promotional C.D.

“The live experience of the Spoken Word is at the heart and centre of my work. The rhythms, sounds, timing and silences within a piece of Performance Poetry being as important as the words. How we can convey the essence and energy within a poem, through the spoken word, is what inspires me to experiment with new forms, different mediums and other artists.”

‘Although she has lived in England for two decades, her poetry is rooted in Ireland, whether laughing fondly at its stereotypes or asking tough questions about those whose lives were damaged by the stranglehold of the church’ – The Scotsman
