7.30pm, Thursday May 3rd, Briton's Protection sees the launch of the latest issue of Manchester's radical poetry magazine on the theme of "Class".

The Manchester-based poetry and arts magazine Citizen 32 is launching its latest issue on the theme of class as part of the City’s May Day celebrations.

The new magazine features work by American legend, Lawrence Ferlinghetti(pictured), considered by many to be the world’s greatest living poet.

Fellow American George Wallace, Poet Laureate of Suffolk County in the USA, will be in Manchester on Thursday May 3rd for the launch event at the Briton’s Protection pub,

Great Bridgewater Street
.

Also featured in the magazine is the “Bard of Salford” John Cooper Clarke as well as Labour movement stalwart, Billy Bragg who talks about his book “The Progressive Patriot”.

Citizen 32 provides a showcase for new and emerging poets, writers and artists displaying their work against established writers such as Harold Pinter, Adrian Mitchell, Simon  Armitage and Roger McGough. And in this issue there is a wealth of new undiscovered talent waiting to be read.

The launch event starts at and will also feature performances from The Poetry Chicks, a group of women who will be coming from their native Derry in Northern Ireland to join us.

And Manchester’s legendary and often controversial diva, Chloe Poems will also be performing.

There will also be opportunity for other poets to perform in our open mic spot. But there early to book a slot.
