A door closes, another opens: Emma Decent's journey of discovery

entry picture

A popular spoken word and poetry night in Todmorden is taking a break – but organiser Emma Decent is not looking back. Magic Words came to a close last month when its venue closed down, but poet and host Emma is now involved in her own project which sees her extending her writing and performance to theatre. Beyond Dreams Of Aberystwyth is an autobiographical tale about her father and a family secret that came out soon after he died. Discovering the secret inspired her to make a world trip three years ago and the show, with dates in Bradford, Salford, and Leeds next month,  brings all the threads together, with poetry, theatre and multi-media. The project is supported by the Arts Council for England.  Emma is also telling the story (originally a blog) as an online book with chapters published from now till the end of March. You can find out more on Emma’s website.
