ROBERT BURNS

Raging winds around her blowing

O that's the lassie of my heart

Braving angry winter storms

Esteem for Chloris

Remorseful apology

To Mary in heaven

Behold my love, how green the groves

Up in the morning early

Robbie Burns the Scottish bard

News lassies, News

She says she loves me best of all.

All the lines in this verse are titles of poems or songs. Most relate to ladies that Burns loved...

I like this a lot, very clever. Last year I found an anthology of Robert Burns' work on a Church Fair table, all of 50p. There are more than 550 poems/ballads/songs in it. I'm a bit overwhelmed, but I pick my way through gradually, as the spirit moves me, for he is an acquired taste to absorb in the tens per gulp.

I've never found collage poems easy. For me the first 3 lines of the first verse go really well together and the first 2 in the second. I lose the flow thereafter - but maybe that type of poetry isn't supposed to flow.

I love anything to do with Burns though - so do hope you're going to do it at the Tudor on Thursday!

What a greta idea. Burns is incomparable.
