Bowled over at the Aldeburgh poetry festival

Sun Stops Play, a “mock lecture” on the language of cricket and poetry, could well turn out to be one of the highlights of the Aldeburgh poetry festival this weekend, 2-4 November.  Delivered by award-winning poet, playwright, anthology editor (The Penguin Book of Caribbean Verse), short-story and children’s writer John Agard, pictured, it includes references to Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze, Lord Byron, WG Grace, Shakespeare and more. It’s at the Britten Studio, Snape, where the festival has moved many of its events this year, at 9.30-10.30pm, on Saturday 3 November. Earlier on Saturday night, also in the Britten Studio (5-6pm), Young Poets Reading lines up Caleb Klaces, Andrew McMillan, Rebecca Perry and Warsan Shire. Before that, on Friday night, the winner of the Fenton Aldeburgh first collection prize will be announced. Full festival programme
