Catch the bus as Aldeburgh moves inland

entry picture

Aldeburgh’s famous poetry festival is moving some of its events this year – to the world-renowned concert hall and campus facilities at Snape Maltings, above, a few miles inland.

A shuttle bus will ferry festivalgoers between events in Aldeburgh and at Snape. On Friday 2 November, at the start of the festival, the winner of the 2012 Fenton Aldeburgh first collection prize will be announced. The shortlist is: Bee Journal, Sean Borodale (Cape); Loudness, Judy Brown (Seren); Exactly My Own Length, Olivia McCannon (Carcanet); Misadventure, Richard Meier (Picador); Breaking Silence, Jacob Sam-La Rose (Bloodaxe).

Tickets are selling fast for many of the events, say the organisers. An eclectic mix of poets from around the world will be appearing, including contributions from Korea, Somalia, South Africa, America/Palestine, Scotland/Nigeria and the Middle East, as well as 90-year-old American poet Leland Bardwell, who will be scrutinising a favourite poem and being interviewed at separate events.

As well as a feast of workshops, talks, readings and exhibitions, there will be an open mic on Saturday night, 3 November, from 11pm to midnight, and on Sunday 4 November Suffolk Poetry Society will be launching their own diamond jubilee anthology. More details of events
