Carol Ann Duffy's view of Hillsborough

entry picture

The poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy has written a sonnet to mark publication of the verdict of the independent panel that looked for the truth behind the Hillsborough disaster in April 1989, in which 96 football fans died. It is published in the Liverpool Echo. Write Out Loud's heartland is in the north-west, and the panel's revelations about the police cover-up have been referred to in comments on the site this week.

I am a great fan of CAD and, personally, I think she's been the best Poet Laureate in my lifetime.

She seldom puts a foot wrong (hey, me using a cliche... : ) and she tackles anything and everything with equal verve, sensitivity, wit, invention and aplomb.

Dame CAD for me!

Yes - it's great to see a poet laureate write something that is really relevant to the people.
