Once This Was A Poet

entry picture

A play in one act by Brenda Read-Brown presented by Tewkesbury Arts and Drama Society at the Cheltenham Literature Festival – 8:30 pm, Tuesday 14th October 2008.

A man and a woman meet, fall in love, and get married; one of them dies. Not an unusual story, you might think. But what makes Once this was a poet  different is that the man and the woman are both performance poets, and the tale is told largely through their poems – witty, thought-provoking and sad. Paul McKee, Cheltenham’s Arts Development Officer, said that Once this was a poet was “all the things drama should be - insightful, challenging, moving and very funny”.

With terrific performances by the cast in the first performance, TADS won every prize possible in the Gloucestershire Drama Association’s One Act Play festival. Now there is a second chance to see it, as part of the Cheltenham Literature Festival, at 8:30 pm on Tuesday 14th October. Tickets are available through the usual Cheltenham Literature Festival box office, or online at http://cheltenhamfestivals.com/whats_on/literature_festival.html
