Boxes

Packaging, contentious,

Used as presentation,

Packaging, is less so

Used for preservation.

Spam and pepperoni pizzas

Come in tins or boxes,

So does fancy underwear,

But strangely never sockses.

Sent to you by courier,

Delivered to your door,

Bubble-wrapped for safety.

What did we do before?

Polystyrene chips are great,

For filling up big boxes

Full of ancient artefacts

Or old grand-father clockses.

Coffins made from cardboard,

From Tupperware or tin.

Boxes so convenient

For putting bodies in.

When I’m past my sell-by date

I’ll pick one off the shelf.

I’ll have a crack at DIY

And pack away myself.
