Mab and Mao Jones return to childhood library

entry picture

Sister and brother poets Mab and Mao Jones were at their local library in Ely, Cardiff, this week giving a reading and presenting an anthology of emerging Welsh writers in which they both appear.

Mab said: “We grew up on the Ely council estate and went to what are sometimes referred to as the 'best' and 'worst' schools in Wales - Glan Ely High School, the local comprehensive, and Howell's School for Girls, a private school that is over 150 years old. Somehow, despite our almost opposite educations, we have both become poets.”

Of the anthology, Parthian's Ten of the Best, Mab said: “We hope that other young people will read it and be inspired, as we were when we visited the library as children!” Mab and Mao (aka Michelle and Michael Oliver) have been published together in Parthian's Ten of the Best and the forthcoming Parthian anthology Nu2. Map
