Ledbury Poetry Competition

The Ledbury Poetry Festival has launched its annual poetry competition for 2011 and  are delighted that Ty Newydd, the National Writers’ Centre for Wales has again agreed to sponsor the first prize. 

There are three categories in the competition: Adults (judged by Anthony Thwaite), Young People (12 – 17) and Children (judged by Mandy Ross). 

 Prizes

Category 1 - Adult (18 and over)

First Prize                            Ty Newydd writing course in 2011

Second Prize                      £250

Third Prize                           £150


Category 2 – Young People (12 – 17)

First Prize                            £100

Second Prize                      £50

Third Prize                           £25


Category 3 - Children (11 and under)

First Prize                            £25 book token

Second Prize                      £15 book token

Third Prize                           £10 book token


On Saturday 9th July 2011 the winners will be able to read their winning poems as part of their own event at the Ledbury Poetry festival.

This year there is no theme so let your imagination run wild – be inspired – perhaps by the world outside – which appears, in Ledbury anyway, to have turned completely white.

Closing date: Thursday 28th April 2011 at 5.30pm.
