La Sombra

I can’t see the light anymore
only the darkness.
In a room full of candles,
I bring the shadows.

My mummified heart
beats a dusty thud
inside my chest;
a funeral drum.

I am the ghost of Christmas past,
Christmas present
and Christmas future rolled together;
a morbid apparition.

I take love
and turn it into misery.
I take praise
and turn it into apathy.

I am every niggling doubt,
every weasel lie,
every broken heart,
every wistful sigh.

I bruise the soul,
and harry the mind.
I take something good
and break its trust.

I can’t see the light anymore;
I am just the darkness.
