Trying to sleep, city night

The traffic marches loudly on the roads
And groans by below me
But the cool darkness lays a finger
Gently on the traffics lips
And hushes it away.
Kiss me moonlight down from the sky
Beckon me the laughter of the stars
I will lie here contentedly
Half asleep.
Hush you many night lorries
Too busy to be thoughtful for my sanded eyes.
Leave my ears to peacefulness
My mind to wandering.
I have been with you on those dark fathomless roads
Swallowed with a roaring gallop into ravening night
Devouring the bright trails of the roadmaking snails
That wink us on briefly, swallowed.
I sat tense in glory in your humming cabins
All the worlds night streaming past.
All the worlds night leaping out on me
Burrowing
Deep and speedy into all the worlds dark heart.
Mind spangling wonder to rush powerfully
Among the still night. You race away, unleashed.
I lie here, loosening my grasp on your travelling,
Cut on into midnight, your strong eyes of light
Boring tunnels, with the road stars to guide you.
Now let your strength whisper and your hungry mouths hush
And let me sleep.

I love the detailed feel and images in this, Freda.
It has an ethereal quality to it...

'Kiss me moonlight down from the sky
Beckon me the laughter of the stars'

'Mind spangling wonder'
