A love poem in February by Freda Davis

entry picture

We are delighted to point you to our selected Poem of the Month for February – ‘Close to you’, by Freda Davis. Freda may have posted it a few days after Valentine’s Day, but her poem is an examination of the idea and intensity of love.

CLOSE TO YOU

by Freda Davis

I move a fingertip, I breathe, I blink,

And I communicate a thought to you.

Where others speak and listen , we but think,

And all my dearest longings thus are brought to you.

There is within me something separate,

Sits back to wonder, only dumb at this.

Never dreaming of such mindless beauty.

Barely tapped by thought,

The fathomless wells of love.

Time, walking gently, clings to us,

All the soft spoken, kiss-token evening.

All the hands of comfort clasp,

Touch our gazing senses.

We love without pretense

Our separate each others.

You lose identity within my love:

The beauty of your body holds me still.

We are so near that we absorb our selves.

And every movement is a speech to me;

Of lips, hands, eyes. Of all.

All saying one to one

Love is, and we are whole.

That's a beautiful poem Freda - so delicate.

I'm really glad they brought poem of the month back. It's good to have some reward for the work that goes into writing a poem and to be more widely recognised for that success.
