Our return ticket to Marsden! Write Out Loud's poetry jam at the jazz festival
Write Out Loud's annual poetry jam returns on Sunday 12 October this year to Marsden Socialist Club as part of Marsden’s annual jazz festival. Those who came last year may recall our exclusive access to the venue, the superb stage and sound system, the high standard of poetry and last but not least, the on-tap ale that always adds that little extra to a jam … With Write Out Loud celebrating 20 years this year and with being a longstanding supporter of Marsden Jazz festival we are looking forward to another very special morning of open-mic poetry.
Last year Write Out Loud’s founders Julian Jordon and Dave Morgan traversed the Pennines to add their unique and inimitable performances, plus Write Out Loud’s news editor Greg Freeman, which made for a very special and atmospheric occasion. But as ever, Yorkshire poets formed the bedrock of the jam, acquitting themselves brilliantly with such a breadth, range and quality of poetry.
This year I will be compering the event again, bringing with me my lovely singing sisters in our group All4One. To round off the jam we will be singing our newest song, Northern Fail, a satire inspired by last year's jam, where folk trying to get there by train were severely thwarted! If you're coming from afar this year, do a car share, rent a barge boat, hire a helicopter, but don't let the train take the strain ... However you manage to get there, you will find a warm welcome that is sure to make the journey worth it!
In addition to our traditional Sunday morning slot you will also be able to see All4One perform at Write Out Loud’s pedalled-powered evening of music, song and spoken word at Katie's Kitchen (opposite the Mechanics) on the Friday evening.
