The Table at the Centre

This old table.
It’s been at the centre.
Something we started with.
Bought as a second -
Scratches to repair.
But still solid.

Food prepared,
Meals shared.
Cats on corners,
Curious; watching.
Laughter over it;
Tempers lost to it.

Shoes cleaned,
Travels planned.
Cards dealt,
Grief softened.
Games played;
Wins shared.

This table at the centre,
Darkened oak from age and wear.
The same scratches;
Still solid.
Seen much.
Given us,
Family.
