Daughter

You & I

We

Forward

In step

3 Legged Race

Against the world

The Mirror in your eyes

Reflect who I give you

You opened my fists

Stretched my arms

To show me what ‘embrace’ means

The warmth of your soul

Radiates in your smile

Which has engraved it's image in the folds of my memory

You challenge who I thought I was

The conflict you create in my head

Ironically, has given me the sweetest peace

When I tried to run from your challenges,

I made circles in the sand

Each excuse brought me back to you.

The colors of you rinse my spirit

The pink playfulness of your giggles smell like bubblegum

As the green of your intelligence is piney

Your fears and sadness are stormy gray

But you wear courage and determination like blue jeans

You are the growth that I didn't know I was praying for.

The Mirror in your eyes shows me who I give you, and that reflection challenges who I think I am.
