I Am Human
When your body bleeds,
the world turns near,
with gentle hands to calm your fear.
When your tears fall,
the world rushes in with soft embrace,
to hush your sobs and dry your face.
When you smile,
the world throws a celebration,
to rejoice in the blooming of your elation.
But what about me?
When my body bleeds.
no one turns.
When I cry.
the world does not listen.
When I smile,
the world tears it away.
If your wounds are met with care,
why must mine dissolve in air?
If your tears deserve embrace,
why must mine be a disgrace?
If your joy invites delight,
why must mine be stripped of light?
I am human (too).
