Viral Sounds

thirteen to twenty,

that beauteous age

when a predatory virus

stalks young hearts,

there is no defence,

resistance is futile,

music ear worms

infect and burrow

deep within the helpless

young, becomes resident

as a lifetime’s curse

free to be sung unbid,

hummed, whistled

foot-tapped

widely played throughout

a life, requested at

many funerals too,

the music never dies

just seeks another host

'The music never dies' is true, Graham. Having this week witnessed a director doing his best to destroy a production of 'Carmen', I consoled myself with the thought that the music will live forever.

Agreed Ray but when does it start?
I guessed using personal experience!

I see you changed the ending - for the better, I think. The seeking of other hosts gives the poem more depth. Not sure about the age restriction, though.
