A Love Letter

Love is a harsh reminder of the beauty that remains

It stains , lives in the crimson flower which blossoms in those spring bedsheets.

Fleets of ships and vessels couldn’t carry the weight of my affection

As soon as we locked eyes , you caught my attention.

With quiet resurrection my feelings ignited

Plighted by your cool manner, but I knew I could shatter it in an instant.

I knew it then, I saw my future in your eyes, my forming heredity in your gait.

I decided to wait to return the compliment

I meant every word, I hope you heard it in my tone of voice

It was up to me but now it’s your choice.

Would you want to advance this further?

Are you thinking marriage, children, a house ? Because cherry trees, dogs and an idyllic farm are all I can think of.

Would you give me a chance ?

I’ll roam and wander in these pages of mine

Carefully constructed and compiled over time.  You’ll remind me of the time, send me to bed with a proficiency only a lover could have.

He said they were all onto you, but it was only everyone but me.

Are you scared of love like me? Do you feel it’s too free to be caught ?

I wish sometimes it would just let me be.

But it’s freeing in a sense, I like to get all tense and worried

I hope you don’t feel this dream is hurried.

My legacy is my words, my love is my art.

I’ll hold these pages taut as you read through the chapters

With laughter, our souls will join one another in holy matrimony as the leaves turn green.

Your arms are lean from the passion you expel. They’ll hold me tight and I’ll cast a spell. We’ll think this life is swell once you tell your lover you love them.

Love isn’t ignorant, shameful or bitter

It makes you a guard of someone’s honour, art and heart.

You’ll admire the lace in my sleeves as you pull them up to place that emerald rock on my finger

I’ll let your smile linger on in my mind, the kind of lingering which surpasses eternity

We’ll reject modernity, live in continuity with one another

You’ll be friends with my brother , you’ll ignore my pain.

Wouldn’t you rather be with me, than face a lifetime of misery ? I hope you’ll grace me with chivalry.

I promise I can show you things

I’ll make you forget your former flings

I won’t ask for diamond rings, bags or shoes

I won’t let you use again, your life is too precious to abuse its fragility.

I’ll hold onto things which we’ll collect from the places we visit, postcards, seashells and little books of poetry.

What a delight it could be, you me and a home by the beach.

You’ll make a home of my womb, plant a seed and take heed as it grows

It’s called care and it shows.

We’ll keep a high chair for the little ones, we’ll make sure their lives are ones of fun and imagination.

With quiet persuasion, I’ll convince your mother to like me.

We could build an army together of poets and artists.

And I’ll only hope that they have your eyes.

Every time I look at their faces I’ll smile with surprise.

Your ability, your smile, your consideration which could stretch a mile.

And when they grow up, we’ll do anything to support them.

And when the time comes, when you pass over

I’ll think of you as a little green clover

You’ll remind me of how lucky I am to have known you

To have grown your offspring, to have made it past being a silly little fling.

I’ll listen to the music you recorded over the years, over and over, I’ll write about you and the love we shared until the day that I join you.

Hear my cries of pain from above, I’ll echo your legacy through every passage of time.

I think of you often, I wonder who you’ll be.

Oh yes, you’re right here, ever near, as clear as can be

So join me in this fight, to prove that two can become one and is better that way.

My darling boy I hope one day I can find a way to show you this letter.
