In my dream I pawned her gold and diamond earrings
without her knowing. Maybe I needed the money
for something in the next chapter of my dreaming,
or maybe it was the spicy Indian cuisine.

I called from my car to confess my guilt to her,
but I could feel her smile over the airwaves.
Although she did tell me later, with a mischievous wink,
she checked to make sure the earrings were still there.
