A Fleeting Beauty

entry picture

She has to look pretty,
No fat on her belly,
She has to be extraordinary.

Looking for what people agree,
She wants them to see
Her beauty in reality.

Her body
Becomes rent-free,
As everybody's fantasy.

She is an irony,
Wanting to be free;
She is the one who brings a soul into reality.

But society has bought her dignity.
They tell her what she needs to be.
She follows because she needs her sanity.

I don't know, Yanma Hidayah.

But I appreciate you interacting with me. Giving me the chance. To do things better.

@Auracle, I think it's not just Barbie dolls; there are many other things that can trigger it. Also, when it comes to the mind, the only rule that applies is the one we make for ourselves. The wisest choice is to either follow or reject those thoughts when they arise.

@Rolph David, thank you for your profound interpretation of the poem; I feel honored by it, and I am also glad that its message was conveyed well to you. The word "beauty" should have a positive connotation, but when it is associated with women, it can become triggering.

Cheers,
Yanma

And still we want to ritually burn the Barbie Dolls, in an almost futile attempt to depornify our perverted brains.

Where are the rules&regulations?

Yanma,
The way you’ve captured the tension between external expectations and internal desires in this poem is striking. The image of a woman’s body becoming "rent-free" as others project their fantasies onto her is powerful—it speaks to the commodification of beauty in such a haunting way. The irony of wanting freedom while being forced to conform just to maintain sanity is something so many can relate to. You’ve highlighted a deep truth: beauty is often defined by others, but true self-worth lies far beyond the surface. This poem is a much-needed reminder that beauty isn’t just what’s seen, but what’s felt and lived inside. Thank you for bringing that message to life so poignantly.

Cheers,
Rolph

This resonates with me today as only yesterday my wife and I were trying to explain beauty to our eleven years old granddaughter, who is of course beautiful in our eyes.
