Here we go again

Here he comes again

Drifting down the road towards me

Swirling mist of impenetrable black

I know what’s to come

Envelopment

Close my eyes

Shut it out

Wait for him to pass

Please don’t linger on my soul

Don’t let your cold fingers

Slip down my throat

And pull my heart from me,

Let me be

I have no interest in you

And you no interest in me.

I breathe in the cold air of winter you bring

In the fog that surrounds you.

I hold my breath

In the hope you won’t notice me.

But pass you must

To beyond the horizon

For after the dark

There is light.

A fascinating poem, Pete. The painful dark times that we have to pass through before before the light returns. The first few lines suggest a bully in physical form. High quality verse.
