Let's play hopscotch,

let's grab some chalk

and draw some squares

on the sidewalk,

one piled on top of the other,

straight lines and simple boxes,

find a rock and let our lithe limbs start hopping,

one foot at a time,

up and down,

merrily we go.

I am old now

and can only do this

in my imagination

but it seems like a wonderful thing to do,

better than trying endlessly

to understand

the whys and the hows

and the maybes

and the I-don't-knows

of human existence

and interactions.

So much better to grab a chalk and a rock

and create some color

on the ground

and have some fun.
