LOST AND GONE FOREVER

Cup your hand to your ear can you hear it now

the sound of the past coming through the mists?

the Scots are coming once again

unleashed on a trip down memory lane.

Those Christmases in black and white

with Andy Stewart and Kenneth McKellar

burst with goodness like a dose of salts

to set our hearts and voices aflame

in the middle of our monopoly game.

For fireside cheer it could'na be beat

with a jig and a reel and a highland fling

and a fair wee lassie on the wing.

Now we've lost them, Val Doonican too

with his rocking chair sharing the view,

now Strictly unwinds, a curse on legs

it's another competition of dross and dregs,

it's what the people want they say but

i'll back the bagpipes the swirl and the sway

in black and white to light up the night

and just as good if you're high as a kite.

Thank you Uilleam for your effective protest in support of my view. I wonder that millions can be so misled, it has me scuttling into dark corners of discontent.

Thanks for looking in, Brenda and Frederick!

Thanks all John, Steve, Holden and Pete for your likes.

Thanks Flyntland, were singing from the same Highland hymn sheet! Strictly is beset with media frenzies and has enough trouble without our support.

Stephen, at least Jools uses a live band , a trend I hope (the best thing about Strictly tbh.) Not sure about the rugby involvement.
I used to quite like Moira Andersen's greatest its....

Hi Graham, yes, something about that braw brecht humour that has us reaching for a claymore or a caber , but other things will serve just as well! Same for you over Xmas!

John, yes, the barrel is well and truly scraped it seems. Trouble is I can remember most of it!

Happy Xmas to everyone and thanks so much for following me.

Love it, Ray. A rare treat. Mind you, with the number of repeats the Beeb are showing, I'm sure we might get "another chance to view Kenneth McKeller." haha

It's as you say, Ray. Mind you, Jools Holland's Hootenanny isn't bad, as well as, er, that's it. Didn't Kenneth McKellar do the rugby commentaries ('They'll be dancing in the streets of Dumfries tonight')? No, perhaps not.

How well I remember them - we took ourselves very seriously in those days. I also remember the 'Corries' with their 'authentic' highland sets and real wooly sweaters. Then, more recently, came 'Runrig' two of whom became present day M.P.s
As for 'Strictly' loud - bright - demanding and turned off.
