A short ride on the Waterwitch
followed by a stroll and picnic stop
Sometimes it’s the simple things in life
that are difficult to top

A beautiful autumnal day
the sun shone high in the bright blue sky
Cows and sheep grazed in lush green fields
whilst ducks and swans slowly glided by

The turquoise flash of a kingfisher
caught everyone’s attention
The heron came in second place
in the bird spotting competition

We spotted goldfinches and sparrows
their chit chat carried on the breeze
We startled a rather grand pheasant
who took off over tall larch trees

Weeping willows tickled the water
where golden lily flowers grow
Branches bearing bright red berries
hung heavy in the wild hedgerow

A couple of hours well spent
taking in the nature all around
Down by the Lancaster Canal
there are many delights to be found

Wonderfully atmospheric, Julie. We feel as though we were there! A kingfisher is indeed difficult to beat, when you turn and see it in flight at the right moment.
