Silly Me.

Here I am

Let the crows strip me

Of what is left of my humanity

I offer myself

Wholly

To your depravity

My weakness

Is your strength

See my flesh

And feast

Devour me

I succumb

I Submit!

Your commitment

Has convinced me

I am worthless

Do you like the taste

Of my blood?

Go ahead

Drink

As you see fit

What is that ...

Do I see a glimmer?

Silly me

I thought

For a moment

I saw a hint

Of conviviality

Silly me

Wishful thinking

A desperate claw

Scratching at water

For a brief relief

A last ditch attempt

At clarity

Carry on

Take what you need

I only hope

That I can fulfill your greed

Strangely I feel content

In the knowledge

That I will never

Satisfy your needs

I will die

Drained of love

And my life

Will be complete

I shall haunt you

From above

But you will never

See me again

Silly me

I thought you cared

But now I realise

You were just scared

Despite your gut full

Of blood

That’s just how

You will remain

So go ahead

Drink me in

Soak me up

I will lay myself

Bare for you

In the cold, hard

Rain

But you know

That what I have

And what I am

Will never, ever

Be enough

And with me

You will always

Have someone else

To blame

For your own failing

In life

And love.

The best words in the best order. For a moment

I saw a hint

Of conviviality

I just re-read your majesterial Cezanne poem. It gets better with every reading. Your visual imagination, and your ability to translate the subtle impressions of the three dimensions into words, are just superb.

Immensely powerful, Clare. A put down poem with great panache!
