Mr and Mrs Woodpecker
took lunch in the garden today
Dining at the feeding station 
ferociously pecking away

Much larger than the other birds 
they make quite an impressive sight
Distinctive red underbelly 
contrast plumage in black and white 

Spooked by our sudden movements 
they take off together in flight
Up and over the open fields
until they are far out of sight
