Give Me Poetry

Give me poetry

I want beautiful words

Tell me about the birds

And the bees

Wrap me in adjectives

Curled around nouns

I don’t care if it elicits

A smile

Or a frown

Take me to places

I’ve never been

Illustrious spaces

Felt

But not seen

Paint me a picture

Invoke thoughts of a bard

Conjure up deities

Weave magic spells

I will even forgive you

If your words come out

Jarred

Remind me of oceans

Salty sea smells

Romance me with tales

Of heaven and hell

Do your work poets

Make me see what you see

I want to catch

Your scent on the breeze

So write me a poem

I’ll write one for you

We’ll paint pictures

With words

And unite the world

I guess by now you have noticed

I’m a romantic at heart

I think for a poet

That is a good start

So send me your words

And I’ll send you mine

We’ll dress them in feathers

And they’ll float

For all time

I have a yearning

For rhythm and rhyme

Let the magic of words

Mingle with the sublime

Send me your poems

And I’ll send you mine.

Very nicely put together, I will send you poetry, you can rely on that. Remember not to avoid what poetry is:

"Poetry is the journal of the sea animal living on land, wanting to fly in the air. Poetry is a search for syllables to shoot at the barriers of the unknown and the unknowable. Poetry is a phantom script telling how rainbows are made and why they go away."
