Never cast a clout till May’s out
so the famous saying goes 
But today is the first of June 
and still the chilly breeze blows

There is a constant threat of rain
and frequent heavy showers 
Not good for Jubilee parties 
but great for summer flowers 

I went to a garden party  
with tea and delicious cakes
The local womens institute 
made plenty of lovely bakes

There was a bottle tombola
and raffle prizes to win
I won the most wonderful gift
scented lotions for my skin

I brought back some left over cake
to share with my family 
Lemon drizzle and chocolate 
for my husband, my son and me 

The sun came out for a short while 
and warmth radiated down 
A rainbow formed in the sky  
forming an arc over the town 

We hope for better weather 
for the jubilee bank holidays
But the perfect mix for rainbows 
is rain showers and sunny rays
