Like A Passion Flower

Like a passion flower

He wound his way

Into my life

Winding his way

With grace and power

His tendrils curled

Around my heart

Delicately

At first

So soft

He made me

Feel

Like a precious

Pearl

He said I was

His precious

Girl

All gold

And diamonds

And rainbow

Swirls

We laughed

And danced

Believed

Together

We were

Against the world

We could survive

Anything

Just as long

As it was

Only

Me and him

But then

The lights

Began to dim

And life

Became sinister

And grim

His tendrils

Tightened

Around my throat

Eventually

They invaded

Everything

Crawling

Under my skin

Pernicious Possession

Became his

Obsession

To love me

Was to own me

To blame

Me

Made me the enemy

I simply

Couldn’t win

It wasn’t

Love

It was regression

Inability to maintain

Control

Over himself

To hold me down

Was his power

In recognition

Of his weakness

He had to

Take away

My crown

Slowly

He choked me

With his

Love

With his gloved

Hand over my

Mouth

I’ll kill you

If you leave me

Remember you

Have made a

Vow

Yes, my love

I made a vow

To love you

Til the day

I die

I just never realised

It would be at your hand

Or under your body

I would lie
