"We need not fear the judgement of history. Who, after all, speaks today of the extermination of the Armenians?" Adolf Hitler

Under cover of darkness
The Turks renew the slaughter
A slaughter that began in 1457.
In November 2021 Western media
Takes no notice of how the Turks & Azeris,
Continue to murder the remnants
Of Armenian Orthodoxy. They do it with gold
with oil and drones and coal and technology,
Money from the Saudis, arms from the Turks
Who besmirch NATO with their presence.
The Armenians put out their hands in supplication
But the west ignores them, just as it did in 1915,
During the first Armenian genocide,.
They had to pay for peace with land and people
The usual story of a 500 year retreat.
Was this then put before a king on a table?
No! Armenia raised her head, fought and wept
And grew old in history, she did not want the gold,
The peacock-angel of Armenia took her hand away,
As she covered her face in mourning,
And put it to her lips. Armenia has survived
The hot wind that blew out of Arabia
She pressed her lips to the fire and burned
She danced in the roaring mountains, swam in the placid lakes.
After the massacres in Anatolia she wept
Wept until she she went numb.
And her name was David the stutterer.
She forecast stormy love and inclement weather
No more pilgrimages to St Sophia's
In Constantinople. For us five hundred years
Passes in the blinking of an eye. The Turks
Have robbed us of our buildings, our magical city
Our people but we continue. As the Jews say
Next year in Jerusalem, so we say
Next year in Constantinople.
The mother of Armenia went down the aisle
Dressed in wild flowers
The men gather, to watch her,
May your sons and daughters be blessed
With the spirit of Armenia.
You take it, keep it, make it a daughter or a son
Who will fight for our mothers and fathers
For all those generations before whom I sing.
