Stories collected by Poet on the Street reveal another side of city

A book that maps a poetic history of Winchester and was brought about by Winchester poetry festival’s Poet on the Street, Jonny Fluffypunk, has been published.

Winchester: A Poetic History in Inconsequential Moments includes some poems written by Jonny based on the stories he was told last year, while others are by the tellers themselves. The book is designed as a ‘guidebook’ so that readers can follow routes to the spots where the poems are located.

Talking about the book last year at the poetry festival, Jonny Fluffypunk said he looked forward to putting together the local anecdotes he had collected into something that might reveal another side to a well-heeled area beloved of estate agents.

Jane Bryant, chair of Winchester poetry festival, said: “Jonny has been a whirlwind of inspiration and a creative catalyst to help us all see Winchester and its nooks and crannies in a new light.  As we walk around Winchester, we can carry this alternative pocket guidebook full of people’s reflections on the often hidden heritage within the city.”

Winchester: A Poetic History in Inconsequential Moments is available to buy via the Winchester poetry festival website shop or can be purchased at P&G Wells bookshop in Winchester.
