A few hours in the garden
the rain stayed away for a while
Chopping down and tidying up 
sweeping leaves into a big pile

It was chilly but calm and dry
on this mid February day
Weather warnings on the news
tomorrow, a storm is on it’s way 

The garden looks a little sad
there’s not much colour to be found
A few snowdrops and primulas
sheltering in the sodden ground 

Something small and red caught my eye
it took me by surprise to see
A sleepy little ladybird 
nestled in the conifer tree

After a few hours hard work
pleased with the results we could see
Time to go indoors and warm up
with a well deserved cup of tea
