Come Back to Me

You cannot change the world,

but you may be able to be an

influence in someones world.

The world is wild and unruly.

Chaotic in nature. But you

can make  a difference each

moment to feel into its texture

with your touch. It won’t be much,

but maybe it is just enough.

it is all you can do in the face

of the storm that matters.

Live it. Live it for those who cant,

live it for those who have paved the way,

live it for the sunrises and sunsets,

for the dances in the night.

For each other.

You cannot change the course

of the universe.

But you can influence the everyday

from inside the perimeters in which

you exist. You can build community.

You may not be able to change people

but you can change yourself, heal your

inner child. You are not alone.

There is a force of good in this world,

and sometimes you cannot make out

its shape, you must learn to see it,

feel it, believe in it. You must learn to dance,

you must learn to live. When I sang to you,

on the darkest of nights, I was singing you

back to life. Breathing air into lungs that

had collapsed under the pressure of your

will to die. I cannot lie, that shit scared me.

I reached into your chest and touched your

heart, saying, “You are still alive, I can

feel your heart beating.”. I put the spark

back into your eyes that once despised

the the sunlight, and the moon shine.

I put the pep back in your step.

I told you to arise, arise, arise!

Your are still here for as long as you

have time, hold it dear, hold it to your

pounding heart, your breathing lungs,

to the pep in your step that will take you

to tomorrow, where you will grow wings,

fly in the sky and see the landscape

of your life from the birds eye view.

What do you see? You and me,

I have always been here. Even when you

couldn’t see. Come back to me.

Come back to me. Come back to me.

Hello Rachelle!

Thank you so much! It means a lot to me that it resonated with you. It is so hard sometimes to accept the things I cannot change, but it is also really exciting to explore the things I can.

Thanks again!

Hi Gabriel!
I had to go back and re-read your poem, there's so much feeling in your poem and it really resonated with me from a mental health perspective. It's like your both talking to yourself and to everyone simultaneously.
There's an acceptance of the things we don't have control over and a focus on what we can change which is so relevant to current events.
Loved this!
Rachelle
