There’s a little piece of plastic in the kitchen draw

Along with all the bits and bobs, I don’t know what they’re  for

But every time I open it and shuffle things around

This little piece of plastic pops up and then sinks down

This little piece of plastic I think’s been there for years

It may be broken Lego or a Britains Indian spear

It could of course be something that’s absolutely crucial

To hold something together which would be unusual

This little piece of plastic is chipped just at the end

So whether it was broken and put in there to mend

Or was it a small broken part that came from something larger

Like a household appliance, or old battery charger

This little piece of plastic is very irritating in the draw

as I don’t know why it’s there or indeed just what it’s for .

You can bet your life  however if I just throw it away

After years and years of keeping it , I’ll need it the next day !

Yes, really good. I can also relate to what you describe, Pete. You never know when you might need things and then 'if only' pops into your mind.

I can relate to this.
I have stuff in my drawers that have been there for so long that I can't remember what they are, but I daren't throw them for fear I'll need them at some point.
I also have keys which don't seem to fit any lock.
Nicely written, I enjoyed that one.
