Plurabilities

entry picture

Gracehoper jigs ajog,
hoppity skippity croaks Mr Frog.
Shhhhh! Finnegan's Awake!

Complain with the full force of a Jesuit priest
Whine like a man who's out of time.
Casuistry and sophistry cling together perfectly,
Poetry’s more about the wine than the whine:

A true poet makes the difficult easy
Turns water into wine in a half-truncated line,
Caesuras soar, in a breeze  of words

Pull out his eyes! Oh! pull out his eyes!
Apologise! Apologise!
I will not apologise

I never apologise.
I laugh in the face
Of crypto-fascists of left or right.

The certainty of their zeal; these empty-headed
authoritarians of race or religion or accent or class.
Don’t like being offended? Piss off..
I spit in the face of all the stupidities
Of the human race.

Sniff out intelligence, wherever it linger,
Avoid the haters of the Trapeze swingers
Embrace those flingers of plurabillities,
Who shift the shade,
Who seek the heart of darkness,
To break free from this all-abiding stupidity.

But please, remember me fondly
I heard from someone you're still pretty
And then they went on to say that the pearly gates
Had some eloquent graffiti

Like "We'll meet again" and "Fuck the man"

Songwriter: Samuel Ervin Beam
