VOICE IN SACRED HEARTS

VOICE IN SACRED HEARTS

Three voices, clear as bells but

more beautiful, blended as one in a

heaven made for the occasion and

hung from the vaulted ceiling,

each note a perfection,

each phrase a blaze of brilliance,

each song a longing to capture

every cornered soul; and in return

to offer, as bread and as wine,

a tiny part of the body and blood

of a new lord, a new way.

Three voices filled this fine church,

pushing at every joint in the stone,

every joist, rejoicing in the ease

with which they could penetrate

the smallest gap, forever absorbed,

part of the fabric, part of the future.

And no-one could return there

and find it as it was before; it was

there where Voice had once sung,

sung songs of love and joy, celebrating

all the beauty of the one world.

Three voices singing, ringing

bells and changes, ringing

time on all that needs to change,

three voices to swing the bells,

all those bells that will wake and

bring back to the one world those who

hate because they know no love,

who scatter fear because they fear all.

The roof of the church keeps off the rain

but Voice rise easily through, a new

journey only they can make.
