London September 2021

entry picture

Streets eerily uncrowded

at evening rush hour.

Traffic glides quietly along

save for the manic cyclists.

Something doesn’t feel right.

Where is everyone?

New lockdown tower

that may now be redundant

peeps between old streets.

Soft September afternoon

that seems like a Sunday.

In one sense it’s wonderful

to be back with old comrades

on Clerkenwell Green.

A silence in Chancery Lane.

Statuesque young couple draped

together as part of a tableau

beside a fountain within

the hidden oasis of Temple.

Relinquish such serenity

for the Embankment

and more head-down cyclists.

Glimpse the party going on

in setting sun across the river.

Thanks, Ray and Stephen. Composed on a walk back across London to Waterloo, investigating some places like Temple I had never discovered before. Thanks for the Likes, Stephen A and Holden

You cover so many things in four verses, Greg. It's nearly two years since I was in London and your poem beautifully describes a city that I have never seen.

A lovely vignette of uneasy calm Greg. I remember the city during my young days on a bike, the same atmosphere. I was the only one though! I can't understand the head down mentality !
