Today's news is overwhelming 
I really can’t explain why
I’m feeling so emotional
the more I see the more I cry 

It would be wrong to turn over
or to look the other way
Events shown across our screens 
are happening, now, today 

The news from Afghanistan
is frightening and relentless 
These reports leave me reeling
feeling emotional, hopeless

I see desperate human beings 
take frantic, last resort actions 
I watch young British soldiers 
make difficult, brave decisions 

The President admits
he can make no guarantee 
Who knows what the final outcome 
of the evacuation will be 

There is no perfect solution
no quick fix to put things right
Whatever the outcome will be 
it won’t happen over night 

I am not religious
admit to not being the praying kind 
This week is an exception 
it’s the only answer I can find
