Donations are essential to keep Write Out Loud going

Untitled

I can stop my worrying.
I can quit my hurrying
because I choose to rest.
to stop and to pray
an essential part
of any day.

When I sit and concentrate,
I clear my mind of all I hate
I just let it all go
trusting God for a change
then I choose what I need
to rearrange.

Let me show this practically.
it's not a vain philosophy
if a person at work
gets up in my face
then I pray inwardly
to give them grace.

We live in times of fear and rage
as we try to turn the page
but those given to hate
our way cannot clear
but are promoters of
destructive fear

Some think feeding anger is alright
and necessary for the fight
but I beg to differ
you can't fight hate with hate,
only love can make it
dissipate

Judgmentalism leads to war
it is motivation to keep score
wearing the hat
of ugly tit-for-tat
and protesting, looking
for a spat

The world we live in is unjust
everyone should now adjust
Carry on, trusting God
resisting hate, rage, and fear
knowing God is very
very near.

Feeling anger is never a sin. Feeding it could be.

There is so much in our society that feeds anger. It is definitely not alright. Only love can make hate dissipate, as you say, Brian.

Growing up, I was told that feeling angry was a sin. I felt that I wasn’t allowed and shouldn’t feel it. It took a piece of my voice. It was a long time before I got it back.

Thank you for your opinion and wisdom. While it is true that some kinds of anger are justified, hateful anger based on judging others is not. I may hate the action of someone, and be outraged by their behavior, but hating them (with anger) only poisons me. Anger at their behavior is normal -- but must be worked through without ending up with bitter hate towards another human. Forgiveness isn't given because another deserves it, nor is it withheld because they don't. It is given to release me from my own tendency to harbor angry hatred. Here is a quote from a famous Buddhist thinker:

“When you express your anger you think that you are getting anger out of your system, but that's not true,” he said. “When you express your anger, either verbally or with physical violence, you are feeding the seed of anger, and it becomes stronger in you.” Only understanding and compassion can neutralize anger."

I changed the word "being" to "feeding"

In my opinion feeling angry is ok, acting on it is not. I read a very interesting article on true forgivness, anger is a very important part of the process. To really forgive takes time.

I agree with you fighting hate with hate doesn’t work and only makes things worse.

Thank you for sharing.
